Welcome to a new little section of this blog, my TBR for 2023. Yes, I know I'm late to the party, and yes, I've already read a couple of books from the list, but I still wanted to share this post with you because, for the first time in two and a half years, I'm feeling confident about my reading plan, and I think I might be able to read all the books on my physical to-be-read pile for once. Also, I love making lists. So here are the 17 books I plan to read this year and my ratings preditions —yes, I truly hope that no book will be under 3 stars.

  2. To Kill a Kingdom, Alexandra Christo

  3. Outline, Rachel Cusk

  4. Three Dark Crowns, Kendare Blake

  5. The Circle, Dave Eggers

  6. Le Mystère Henri Pick, David Foenkinos

  7. Shadow of Night, Deborah Harkness

  8. Cauterio, Lucía Lijtmaer

I already know some of the ratings almost for sure. Breaking Dawn for example, I know that it will be rated 3 stars (although deep down I hope it will be more than that). I also know that Donna Tartt will get 5 stars, just because I can't give her 10. As you may already know, Tartt is one of my favorite authors —along with Sally Rooney—, thanks to The Goldfinch, my all-time favorite book. So when I say I can't wait to read The Little Friend —a book I've been looking for ever since I read The Goldfinch but didn't find until I went to a small second-hand bookshop in Edinburgh— I really mean it. But I also want to fully immerse myself in it, so I'll have to wait until I've finished my master's degree to read it, to have my mind completely at peace and clear of any other thoughts.

As you can see, I plan to focus on literary fiction this year, but I also want to return to fantasy because I really missed it, so I plan to read Sarah J. Maas, Stephenie Meyer, and Kendare Blake, among others. The main problem with fantasy is basically the same as with Donna Tartt, that it takes time and concentration to read. So I'll probably start reading the sequels around August. And that doesn't include To Kill a Kingdom and Three Dark Crowns, which are the first books in their own series, so maybe I won't need such concentration. We'll see, I guess. But I also want this to be the year I finally get around to reading Salinger's works, and somehow make it "my Salinger year", which I'm pretty excited about.

What about you? What are you planning to read this year? Let me know in the comments below.

As always, you know you can keep up with my updates on what I'm reading through Goodreads, my Bookstagram and my blog, now with a new page called TBR list.

Thanks for reading me, and happy belated New Year!
